Fight or Flow?Resistance shows up in our body as dis-ease, headache, joint pain, tightness, anxiety, heartburn, constipation...there are countless examples. What's happening in our body is always symbolic of what's happening in our life. As above, so below; as within, so without. If we are experiencing resistance in our bodies, minds, relationships or day-to-day living ~ asking ourselves whether we are fighting against the situation or flowing through it can begin to point to a solution. Here are a few tips in allowing life to flow through us: 1. Swimming Downstream Quite simply if we are swimming upstream (trying too hard in an ineffective way), we are unable to access the ease and wellness naturally available to us. It's similar to putting a cork in our flow of vitality, and life backing up. It's here we feel the most pain and life's a struggle. Being tough on ourselves and trying to control what we can't doesn't make us strong...but slowing down, accepting, honouring, embracing, and voicing who we are does. When we let go of control, and importantly, our desire for control, we naturally experience more flow. We can't be stuck if we are not controlling, and we can't be swept over by the current if we are actively engaged in living. Flowing with the river allows us to effectively use our energy and receive all the gifts life has to offer. Tip: If you were to imagine a current of energy in your body, is it heading in a natural direction? Does it feel stuck or clogged anywhere? Let go of struggle. Where can you allow your natural vitality to flow through? Allow your body's innate intelligence to dictate the flow of your current and smooth out any rough patches. Feel yourself in complete and natural flow. ![]() 2. The Power of Grace Dr. Wayne Dyer spoke at the I Can Do It! Toronto conference recently suggesting the huge difference between taking motivated action and inspired action in our lives. When we're motivated, we ram through our ideas (fight); when we're inspired, an idea gets a hold of our soul (flow). To lead from our soul, is to be in the state of grace. Author Caroline Myss reminds us of this choice in our interactions. "We can see someone in grace, or choose not to. Grace someone or withhold grace from another." It's a lot of hard work to act from this place, yet when we do so, we are partnering with the Divine and more able to access our full potential, and help others in theirs. Challenges may or may not disappear, but our experience is always one of more ease, transformation, and even gratitude. Tip: If in conflict with another, reflect on what someone acting from grace would do in the same situation. Set your intention to the highest and best outcome for all concerned, and trust it will come to be. Put your hand on your heart before an important conversation, or if the other is open to it, sit back to back (heart centre to heart centre)...and watch as your energy, thoughts and words shift towards something more loving. 3. Winds of Change Life inevitably rocks us from time-to-time when a tornado of unwanted change sweeps through. Dyer tells us, "When we're confronted with a life situation we can do nothing about, we're challenged to change ourselves." We can be victim or creator. Julia Cameron beautifully writes, "Our dreams may feel thwarted when in reality they are being tempered. We are being shaped to fit a divine purpose. We can cooperate or we can resist." Perhaps life has just opened a door. The same seems to apply when we find ourselves stuck at one of life's crossroads. Caroline Myss says it bluntly, with love, "If you choose the familiar, you'll fall on your face. Honour your pivotal moment of change. Dare to make the tough choice, then let go of the outcome." Phew, not easily done, but how liberating to simply go where our soul beckons us, and trust there's a Divine purpose in it...a gift in becoming more whole. Tip: I love this affirmation from self-empowerment author Louise Hay: "Life shows me what to do next. Life loves me, and I am safe!"
