It's so nice to have some warmer weather gracing us, as we blossom into the spring season!

The energies of spring support us in removing obstacles, achieving increased balance, and building inner power that ignites us to take action in new initiatives. So how do we do this? What is it that you need right now to feel energized, fresh, and full of life?

InnerVitality ~ wellness for body, mind and soulHere are InnerVitality's top 10 tips for embracing Fresh Living:

1. CONNECT WITH THE EARTH ~ Choose foods closest to the ground for enhanced vitality. This means eating whole, unmodified foods and choosing products with only a few ingredients. The outer circle of the grocery store is usually a safe bet (more processed foods tend to be stocked in the centre aisles). Send loving gratitude to Mother Earth for the abundance of nourishment and energy she supplies.

2. ALIGN WITH THE SEASON ~ Our bodies do best when we eat according to the season where we live. Top up on fresh local Ontario produce and colour yourself green with the freshness of spring! If you happen to feel 'blue' every spring, or conversely, only feel great in the spring...this may indicate an imbalance in your liver/gall bladder meridians.

3. DON'T INVITE DEATH TO THE TABLE ~ 'Pesticide' basically translates as 'death to pests'...not a welcome vibration for healthy living. To limit pesticide intake, buy organic and try this natural produce wash from health author Marcelle Pick: soak your fruit and veggies in the sink, in a solution of 1/4 cup of vinegar to 2 tbsp of salt, for 15 minutes (1 tsp baking soda can be added as a scrub); rinse thoroughly.

4. SPRING CLEAN THE BOD ~ If you have a hard time consuming enough fluids each day, check out mint-flavoured liquid chlorophyll found at your local natural health store, and add a few drops to your water; it turns your drink into a fresh minty treat and is reputed to act as an internal deodorant and blood cleanser. If you're feeling some unwanted excess or sluggishness in the body, a natural cleanse may be of benefit to you. Check with your health practitioner for a plan that makes sense for your state of health, constitution and lifestyle. Drinking water with fresh lemon before each meal for 2 weeks, then adding a daily cup of dandelion tea for 2 weeks, can help prepare the body for a 2-4 week cleansing diet of whole, natural foods (no alcohol, caffeine, meat, dairy, white flour, or sugar, etc).

5. ECO-CLEAN OUT THE CLOSETS ~ Our refrigerator contents can be symbolic of our own self-care. How well are you feeding your soul and taking care of what's outdated? When we open a fresh, clean fridge full of vibrant colours, we feel great; and the same applies for an organized cupboard or closet. Research the enviro means in your community for getting rid of chemical household products, toxic paints, and outdated medicines. Ditch cosmetics over 6 months old, and commit to knowing what you're putting on your skin (David Suzuki has a list of the 'Dirty Dozen' cosmetic chemicals to avoid at davidsuzuki.org). When purchasing a mattress or bed linens, there are toxin-free options. Donate used clothing and start making the choice of natural, breathable fabrics such as organic cotton, bamboo, linen, wool, and silk...they feel great!

6. IDENTIFY YOUR ENERGY DRAINS ~ Commit to finish those lurking items on your 'to do' list. Identify your top 5 energy drains and take inventory of how much energy dissipates there, limiting your sense of vitality. If a certain person always leaves you feeling drained, it's time for an honest heart-to heart, or to politely limit your interaction by stating the amount of time you have to chat. Conversely, if you aren't feeling great about a past deed, and cannot contact the person involved, choose an action to symbolically make amends. Releasing what's stagnant or remains unfinished can free us to reclaim the power of NOW.

7. ENGAGE YOUR SENSES ~ Put a drop or two of an invigorating pure essential oil on a cotton ball, and place it in your car for a fresh smell, and to help you stay focused and alert while driving. Engage your senses fully when picking up the kids, eating, doing yard-work, walking the dog...notice the scent of rain, the texture and sweetness of ripe fruit, the feel of moist dirt, the calls of birds, and tree branches swaying in the wind. Salute the rising sun each morning. Be present for others. Truly listen to what your heart and soul are whispering in each breath.

8. FRESH AIR ~ Open all the windows in your home for a few hours, inviting staleness to dissipate and the fresh outdoors to enter. If air quality is a factor in your home or work environment, look into an air purifier. Have a shorter lunch break, so you have a few minutes to walk around your office building in fresher air. Full oxygen-cleansing breaths involve filling up our tummy on the inhale and bringing the air right up to expand our lungs, and pushing the air out from the top down on our exhale as our tummy contracts. How fully do you breathe in life?

9. RE-CREATION ~ Change your routine, by getting off the bus a few stops early, or your drive to work so you can see more greenery even if it's a slightly longer commute. Take the trip you want to do before you die ~ this year! When at life's crossroads with a tough decision, choose the scary yet exciting option, and feel your zest for life and potential expand! Reinvent who you know yourself to be by expanding your recreational interests...take up yoga, climb that mountain, sign up for singing lessons, or learn to play tennis or swim. Our inner vitality is about the balance of our whole being, and our abundance of energy. The more we live in balance, passion and harmony, the more we experience this all around us.

10. ASSERT YOUR INNER WARRIOR ~ During spring, we naturally become more attracted to our external environment, ready to play, create, and initiate. Feel creative fire stirring your soul asking for even greater expression. What new insights require you to take action to change your life? Reflect on a new beginning or an important goal you've set. What outward action are you being urged to take? Imagine yourself doing this now. Notice how it feels in your body to assert your inner warrior. What activity will help you enjoy the process of manifesting this goal? See yourself taking this action and completing your goal. Feel the positive ripple effect, as growth becomes possible in all areas of your life!
